During the third meeting of Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) held on 18th June 2025 under the chairmanship of Shri Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) decided to sanctioned a total of 2.35 lakh new houses under the PMAY-Urban 2.0. Under this housing scheme, the government approved a total of 2,34,864 new houses in nine States namely, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. By offering this scheme the government aims to promote inclusiveness and social equity among different underprivileged groups with 42,400 houses allotted in name of for SC beneficiaries, 17,574 houses for ST beneficiaries and 1,13,414 for the OBC. Under this more than 1.25 lakh houses have been sanctioned for the women alone, including single women and widows, ensuring empowerment of women. Meanwhile, 44 houses have been allotted to Transgenders. About PMAY Urban 2.0

The ‘’Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Urban’’ is a transformative initiative designed by the Central Government of India in 2016 aiming at providing an access to the urban residents to call a place to home by offering financial assistance for the construction of pucca houses in urban areas. As of now, more than 93.19 Lakh houses have already been constructed and delivered to beneficiaries. Under this housing scheme, the government approved a total of 2,34,864 new houses in nine States. Among the houses approved today under PMAY-U 2.0, more than 1.25 lakh houses have been sanctioned for the women alone, including single women and widows, ensuring empowerment of women. Meanwhile, 44 houses have been allotted to Transgenders. Objective of PMAY Urban 

The main objective of the Rural Housing Scheme is to provide financial assistance and other incentives for the construction of pucca houses in the state. By offering this scheme government aims to ensure that those citizens who are deprived from availing housing options can get an opportunity to build their own pucca house, through which they can move out of kutcha houses and live in their own maded pucca houses secure a means of living in the form of pucca house in urban areas.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for PMAY-U, applicant must have to meet the following eligibility criteria these are as mentioned below:-

  • Applicants must be a permanent resident of India.
  • Applicants must belong to EWS, LIG, and MIG families in urban areas. 
  • Applicants must not have their own house in the state.
  • Applicants must be a member of a lower middle-class family.
  • Priority will be given to widows, single women, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, transgenders, SC/ST individuals, minorities, and other vulnerable groups, including street vendors and construction workers.
  • If a beneficiary’s parents received a pucca house from prior schemes, the beneficiary will only be considered after other eligible families.

Benefits of PMAY 2.0

  • Financial Assistance for Construction:- Under this government provide financial assistance of Rs.2.50  lakh for the construction of houses.
  • Approved Houses:-Under this housing scheme, the government approved a total of 2,34,864 new houses in nine States.

The houses approved in the CSMC meeting are under BLC and AHP verticals of the Scheme.

  • House Allowance Criteria:-Among the houses approved today under PMAY-U 2.0, more than 1.25 lakh houses have been sanctioned for the women alone, including single women and widows, ensuring empowerment of women. Meanwhile, 44 houses have been allotted to Transgenders.
