About PM Awas Urban 2.0
The PM Awas Yojana Urban 2.0 was announced by Hon’ble Prime Minister on the 77th Independence Day, where he said a new scheme will be made to help poor and middle-class peoples in getting their own homes. Objective of PM Awas Yojana
The main objective of PM Awas Yojana is to give houses to poor and middle-class peoples who do not have a good home to live in. It was started by the government to help such families who were living in weak or rented houses. Assistance is given for building new houses or fixing old ones, so that every family can stay safe and happy. The scheme is being done in both cities and villages, where need is felt most. A better life is tried to be given to everyone through this.
Eligibility Criteria

- Families in EWS, LIG, and MIG categories who live in urban areas are eligible and they must not own a pucca house anywhere in India.
- If a beneficiary has received a house under any government scheme in the last 20 years, they cannot apply for PMAY-U 2.0.
- EWS families earn up to Rs. 3 lakh, LIG families earn between Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh, and MIG families earn between Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh annually.
- Priority will be given to widows, single women, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, transgenders, and people from SC, ST, minorities, and other weaker sections.
- Special attention will be given to safai karmis, street vendors under PMSVANidhi, artisans under the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Scheme, Anganwadi workers, and construction workers.
- Slum residents and other vulnerable groups will also be prioritized for the scheme.
- If a beneficiary’s parents received a pucca house earlier, the beneficiary will be considered only after others who haven’t received help.
- Houses that were sanctioned under PMAY-U but were cancelled after 31st December 2023 by the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) will not be considered again for sanction under PMAY-U 2.0.
- Beneficiaries can apply for either PMAY-G or PMAY-U 2.0, depending on their place of residence. The system will ensure no duplication of beneficiaries between both schemes.
- All eligible beneficiaries and their family members must have their Aadhaar or Aadhaar Virtual ID linked with the details of their application to ensure proper identification.
- If any beneficiary does not yet have an Aadhaar or Aadhaar Virtual ID, they must ensure that their enrolment is done as a priority to be eligible for the scheme.
- A committee at the District or ULB level, led by the District Magistrate, Municipal Commissioner, or Executive Officer, will be responsible for selecting beneficiaries.
- The Government of India may also nominate two non-official members or public representatives as part of the committee to oversee and assist with the selection process.

Notes:
- The State/UT share is compulsory under PMAY-U 2.0. Apart from the minimum contribution, States may offer additional top-up shares to make housing more affordable. However, beneficiaries are required to contribute at least 25% of the total house or project cost. States or UTs that were providing more than the prescribed share in the earlier PMAY-U scheme will continue to do so under PMAY-U 2.0.
- MoHUA will also provide a Technology Innovation Grant (TIG) to projects using new building materials, technologies, or processes. The grant is Rs. 1,000 per square meter for up to 30 sqm of built-up area, including internal infrastructure, to help cover additional costs in AHP projects.
